View Full Version : Aluminum shafts as thick as Nylon ?

BRYAN

I like the thickness of Nylon shafts but when I put thick flights in them it spreads out the prongs that hold the flights, making the flights wobble, so unless there are nylon shafts that can hold thick flights properly, Im trying to find aluminum ones that are almost or as thick as nylon ?
HELP ? :coolodf:

Try using punched flights, and stem rings, don't have any problems myself.

Or maybe go for something like these http://www.dartscorner.co.uk/Stems-Unicorn-Shafts-Unicorn-Karate/c434_828_874/p50692/Dart-Shafts---Unicorn-Stems---Aluminium---%3Cb%3EKarate%3C/b%3E---Medium-%3Cb%3EBlue%3C/b%3E/product_info.html

hi mate why dont you try some of these shafts they kinda give you the best of both the aluminium top holds the flight tight with the thickness of nylon your looking for.

you might find that you cant get a thick flight into an ali shaft without opening up the slots.

I dont know what Americans call 'feeler gauges' ( used for setting the spark gap in spark plugs)
I find a feeler gauge blade the same thickness as the flight and use that to open the tangs gap exactly the same on all three stems.
I don't use ali's I use Titantuim XLTis they last longer and the tangs can be bent many times, where as ali's only bend once before they snap

The Alamo stems that ICEMAN linked to will hold dimplex flights very snugly, without needing to open up the stem first

But is that the type of thing you are looking for?

And these durable nylons are an old favourite with everybody

I take it that second link was no good to you then?

The trouble with the better nylons is they dont come in a thick stem

Its a bit cheeky to suggest it, but your supplier could get supplies as trade from darts corner.
Trade Enquiries - trade@dartscorner.co.uk

Or do as Larry does and buy a bunch of stuff from here,
I don't expect stems and other small items would be as problematic as something like a dart board
But stems and flights and the odd set of darts, you would be alright, takes about two weeks to ship

Hmm don't fancy the grippers?? !!
Hard plastic then?
What about these bubble stems, they also come in black

Durable nylons are the tried and tested bad boys.
Also know as deflector grip if you are googling

Like I say a lot of people use them, maybe someone will say something about them later.
I think they are all right, but I use TXLi's nowdays

I shop the DC store cuz its cheaper if ya buy in volume even with the shipping. And I won't even consider buying darts from America! sad. same darts are sometimes 3 and 4 times the price. I sell my old darts and still make a profit heheheheh!:mutley:

Hi Bryan.
Its about 2 weeks.
But remember this very import code word; dartsforum.
When you order from dartscorner, you get a members discount.
Look for the 'redeem' button/tab and type 'dartsforum' into the box!!
and they knock a few cents off your order

have you ever tried colette stems? I've used them on my thicker flights. I like that the tops are replaceable.

Hey Steve, a Q! How often you have to change flights with that stems? I have black titanium stems, they are very good but I've noticed that if an arrow bounce out of board and fall on the ground the flights are breaking more often then with plastic (nylon) stem I had before. Idk, maybe it's just me!

or these?

I think that may be you Kazinjo.
I have a quarry tile floor (unglazed stone floor tile) with a rubber mat under the board.
I've never had a damaged flight from a bounce out.
Damaged points yes, flights no.

Perhaps you use thinner flights than myself, I use ' poly royals'

As cheep as flights are and as weird as Iam . . . . I change my kite's once a week , I know a couple nicks in a flight wont effect the Dart to much , but I do know I feel much better about my game with fresh flights !
