I think I am, I would never use my darts if the barrel, stem, and flight dont match. I wouldn't use a damaged flight, in fact, I dont even let them wear.
I must own every single colour of nylon stem, and most alloy ones (even though I no longer use them). I now have every colour of phase 5 / sigma top too.

definately.
i hate grubby looking darts, unmatched shafts and battered flights.
i keep telling myself that those beating me all the time are using them but cant help myself.
my barrels are scrubbed with a toothbrush and toothpaste twice a week. takes off any stickiness and keeps them shinier than new.
i only use short red nylon shafts and plain, red poly flights. even the shaft rings are red.
my kids got me some personalised flights for christmas.... yep ... red, with a large white..B
looking inside my dart case everthing is in order and .. red.
2 sets of darts with red shafts plus loads of flights and shafts, all red.
even the small plastic bags with spare rings, sharpener etc in all have red writing on them.
the tool for getting broken shaft out, yep ... red.
i believe that if you use the same thing all the time your eye gets used to it. after a while it will stop registering its there. even lifting a dart up into your view, you will see it, but it wont register as an obstruction and you,ll see right through it.
changing flight patterns and colours means your eyes dont get used to it and it can become a distraction.
i,m sure simon whitlock said something similar when he got his new wizard flights.

The camera has died on me at the moment, but I have to have the shafts and flights colour coordinated as well - even down to the pigeon rings and flights protectors lol.
It's not as good as Edwards case and it's not painted but I've got a little 4 drawer unit I keep my spares in:
http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h408/scrumpy10/drawers.jpg
It's about 2 foot high and about 6 inches wide. The top drawer is for flights, next is for shafts, then other accessories (hole punch, pigeon rings, repointer, etc), and the bottom drawer is for cases (although I chucked a few out last week lol). The flights and shafts are all separated out into little boxes as well lol.

Hello mate - sorry for the late reply, I have only just spotted this.
I played with purists for years, then I had the Bears made and I played with them as a preference. Earlier on this year I went back down to Wales and designed a new grip based I my ideas for creating a level 5 grip which hopefully would be more durable than other level 5s. I have thrown with these darts ever since. They are going to be called the 'Elites' and they are not out until January.

I definitely am.
Black stems with various matching flights
Red stems w/ Union Jack flights
If my darts have black stems, they also have black Tridents. Red stemmed darts have red Tridents.
Yeah, I'm sick. :)
One thing that I'm a total nut over is making sure my flights are prefectly perpendicular with a perfect "+" shape. It drives me bonkers if they have an "X" shape.

I'm one as well - all of my stems and flights match. I stick with either black or silver barrels and my tridents are always black. To take it a step further, I usually shoot soft-tip and those barrels have to match my steel-point barrels.
I collect flights, but never use them. I keep them in album pages like stamps. If I really like a design, I collect each version (std., slim, etc.).

Is there anything in the rules about using three of the same darts - or would it be perfectly legitimate to have three completely different darts, so long as each met the requirements (i.e. proper length, etc)?
Just to clarify, I've absolutely no idea why you'd want to use three different darts, but it just popped into my head!
On that note (and while I'm asking ridiculous questions) do you have to use the same three darts for the duration of a leg/match? Or could you maybe throw three darts, take a massive strop, throw them out and break out a new set for your second go?

As far as I am aware there is no rule that says that you couldn't have three completely different darts (styles weights etc), provided that each dart is in regulation. However, I could be completely wrong an may be corrected shortly!!

The PDC rules just state this:
Players shall provide their own darts which shall not exceed an overall maximum length of 30.5 cms (12ins) nor weigh more than 50 grams. Each dart shall consist of a needle shaped point which shall be fixed to a barrel. At the rear of the barrel shall be an attached flighted stem which may consist of up to a maximum of three separate pieces (namely any combination of; a flight, a flight securing device and a stem).
Which implies to me any combination of darts is OK, but oddly, it doesn't mention anything about swapping them mid game, but I would assume you can only change them inbetween legs or games.

I guess that throwing three odd darts is probably easier when you're wrecked :-D
I love the PDC rule about providing your own darts - I can just picture Adrian Lewis turning up at the Ally Pally for the final and asking the barman if he can borrow the house darts :-D

Absolutely! Gold Mervyn King barrels, matching gold spinning shafts, Trident 180's on the points, personalised flights, flight protectors. If i could fit anything else on them then i probably would!

Thanks. My set-up has somewhat changed from this now though. I was no longer able to find any of the medium gold spinning shafts and the other colours just didn't seem right.
Here is an updated version.

Now have a new set of personalised flights celebrating Stevenage FC's League 2 play-off final victory last season. Now using punched flights and had some gold target points fitted
I use the red/white stems and red flight protectors when practicing at home and switch to blue/white stems and blue flight protectors for matches.
EDIT: Found an image with the blue shafts and flight protectors aswell. Seems this was taken before having the new points fitted though.

Theres a guy on my team who uses 3 completely different darts, he also uses a different stem and different flight on each!! :eekodf: Getting over dartitis too, not a bad thrower considering the wierd setup and the after affects of dartitis :)
Perhaps this is helping in getting over dartitis, he's concentrating on the different grips/throw that he's forgetting to not throw.

I have to have mine looking colour co-ordinated too. I think that's partly why I switched to the black barrels lol. I liked the look and feel of them better than the silver ones. I am seriously tempted to spend stupid amounts of money though on the cosmo magensium locked shafts as they're dark black too, as I can't seem to find any dark black locked ones in any other variety. Then use the dark black W shaped flights too, I think the 'all black' would look good :) Apart from the gold points perhaps lol

It's probably too early to tell... but I think the answer will be YES. About two weeks ago I was thinking about throwing darts again and I stopped at a dart shop and purchased several packs of flights. I looked at the darts though and figured that I'd order some online as maybe I'd save a few bucks. I sort of felt bad that I'd looked at a couple sets from the case and didn't buy them, so I purchased some more flights. A week later I ordered some darts from an online dart store... and I waited... and waited... four days later they hadn't arrived yet. So I went back to the local dart store and bought a set of darts and some more flights. I'm still waiting on the set I purchased online, and although I was very excited to be getting them. I'm almost over them already and thinking about the next set I want to buy. I see a few things that I like and we'll see what I wind up with. I seem to buy things in the evening after a few pints...

I only ask because - well - I LOVE my Lowes a ton - but - I still get that silly craving to try a few more 'straight pencil' style darts in hopes of having that extra little bit of room in the treble bed. But, even though I can throw a 'long' dart, I prefer a short-ish dart - I know these are slightly longer than say the lowes but shorter than the purists .... hmmmm ..... maybe Target would send me a trial test pair? lol

Just bought new darts.
Before even receiving them I have had to buy new flights and stems to ensure everything matches.
Will change all springs to make sure they are the same colour.
If there is the slightest rough edge to a flight, let alone a chip, out they go. I doneate a bout 40 nearly new flights a onth minimum to my local.
All darts must match. always. Flights preferably must match my darts shirt.
before a tournamnet or match the night before my darts case will be packed with military precision.
If it doesn't look right, it does get thrown, darling.

Results vary, but I am the diy type, painting flights blue, because this exact tone is nowhere to be found.
Also been putting white stripes on black flights.
I did even try to make white stripes on the barrels instead of orange ones on my old set- weell, if I wouldnīt use other darts now, I would have perfected it..

I saw this thread via terrier's and thought I'd post my favourite setups here so as not to hijack his... I think I may be suffering from the early stages of tartitis.

The nice thing about soft tips (other than getting darts with a grip I like in a weight I can actually throw) is that the tips can be colour-coordinated with the rest of the setup. From left to right: All-white, all-black, clear flight with metallic conversion point, mixed black and white (note the black spring especially for this setup), pale blue to pick out the blue eyes of the fluffy critter, and something nice and shiny. This is for illustration purposes only - I can't throw them if they don't match each other.

Ha!
Cheers for not hijacking my thread :) 'Fraid Ive got a severe case of 'tartitis' going on..... googled it and the only cure is a steady application of flights and stems at least once a day. Side effects may include darts not going in straight, degraded throw and lack of self confidence. That said my darts are looking absolutely REEM :):):):):)

What darts are those I'm always on the lookout for darts with grip on as much of the barrel as possible. Many darts seem to have grip on only sections of the barrel.sorry I'm pretty computer challenged this question was for drEAM82

On the left, Unicorn Gripper (Style 1, 17g) and on the right, Designa Razor Grip (Style 2, 16g). I also prefer the grip to cover the whole barrel - I particularly like the Unicorns as the rings go right up to the point.

Yeah I am, looking at what stems and kite flights I want to marry up with my silver barney world champs
How'd you find the barneys? I have a very similar grip and style myself on him (without the scores!)
Currently play a 22g dart and know he plays heavier, like the look of these tho...also like kites!

The Barney darts are a great dart by all accounts from what I've read on here
I like tapered noses on darts
I have a similar set (Not Barneys but similar shape) and have always got on with them
Short Jet stems and Kite flights is my set up with them
